From the creator of the RWB's Carmina Burana comes a lyrical ballet based on Handel’s most famous music. Using movement to express the themes of hope, suffering and redemption, this thrilling work is capped with a finale set to the glorious “Hallelujah” chorus. The Messiah was created for the Ballet Royal de Belgique, premiering in September 1997.

Critics describe Wainrot’s work as “volatile…continuous which doesn’t allow for breathing…the choreographer imprints another quality – soft, hidden, even romantic – on what is the characteristic dizziness of his works.”

"Handel's Messiah is his greatest and most imperishable oratorio with its intense and sincere religious feeling. Generally an oratorio is understood to mean an extended setting of a religious libretto for chorus, orchestra and vocal soloists. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet's courageous dance version brings an added dimension to a very familiar work. "
