Welcome from John Alleyne

John Alleyne, Artistic Director

Welcome to a fabulous new season with Ballet British Columbia. For over 20 years we’ve worked hard and have become an innovative contemporary ballet company by investing in talented dancers, designers and choreographers. I’m proud to say that today we’ve built up a distinctive repertoire of 20th century classics and new works - by eminent, critically-acclaimed choreographers, and commissioned works by celebrated Canadian talents.

One of my favourite roles as Artistic Director is planning a season with just the right mix of repertoire that will excite and entice our audience. I am thrilled to announce the programming for the upcoming danceAlive! season which will feature two guest companies (The National Ballet of Canada, Royal Winnipeg Ballet); four

full-length story ballets (Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Nutcracker); two World Premieres (Simone Orlando’s New Work, my Four Seasons); two Canada Premieres from legendary living American choreographers (Lar Lubovitch’s Elemental Brubeck, Mark Morris’s A Garden); one returning Ballet British Columbia audience favourite (In and Around Kozla Street); and, of course, the holiday season favourite Mikko Nissenen’s Nutcracker.

When you choose to join us for the season, we promise some of the finest in dance, both classic and contemporary. Please join us for another fabulous danceAlive! Season.

I look forward to seeing you at the Ballet.
