Ballet British Columbia’s Mentor Program is a unique, intensive training program designed for advanced level ballet dancers who have completed their professional training and are transitioning from student to professional artist. The program provides an opportunity for the young dancer to refine their technical and artistic training while providing support and guidance.

This full-time intensive program runs from September 2008 to June 2009 and accepts only 12 students each year ensuring that each participant receives maximum coaching and guidance. The program has a particular emphasis on classical and contemporary classes, contact improvisation and improvisation-composition study.

Mentor students take daily Company class with Ballet BC dancers, observe company rehearsals, study with outstanding teachers, and learn the Ballet BC repertoire from an array of regional, national and internationally acclaimed choreographers.

This company-centered program is structured to teach students the appropriate rehearsal etiquette, coping strategies, work ethic and personal responsibilities expected of professional dancers. Professional skills are gained through performances, workshops and guest speakers.

Ballet BC is looking for very skilled and motivated dancers with strong classical technique and a passion for dance. The program’s rigorous schedule requires a high level of self-motivation and self-discipline coupled with an advanced level of training practices.

This is a post-secondary program – applicants must have completed their high school education.

Attendance in Ballet BC’s Summer Dance Intensive, August 5-22, 2008 is mandatory for all Mentor applicants.
