In this Canadian premiere of Elemental Brubeck, American choreographer Lar Lubovitch sets his poetic, lyrical choreography to a jazz score. The work appropriates three pieces from the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s 1963 album Time Changes: Iberia. Lubovitch’s choreography combines aspects of bebop and early 20th century American dance on film with a modern, athletic sensibility.

Simone is the recipient of The Banff Centre’s 2006 Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award. She has been praised for her mature and sensitive ideas, her musicality, her vision, and her delineation of movement and space.
