Lust, love, and mischievous magic. A modern interpretation of the classic A Midsummer Night's Dream delivers a cool sensuality tempered with wry wit. Accompanied by Purcell's baroque score, this classically- based but decidedly contemporary program explores the contrasting elements of the natural and supernatural world.John Alleyne

The Faerie Queen breathes new life into Shakespeare’s exuberant, joyful tale, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Locked in a world of law and order, the lovers escape to the realm of the fairies where magic and fantasy prevail. Brimming with the lust and confusion of love, scheming selfishness, and mischievous magic, The Faerie Queen is one of Ballet BC’s most popular and whimsical works.  Truly an audience favourite!

A signature work for Ballet British Columbia, The Faerie Queen is a full-length story ballet created by John Alleyne in 2000, televised on CBC-TV in 2004, and remounted for Vancouver audiences that same year.

In The Faerie Queen, Alleyne has created a ballet of unparalleled newness and beauty…Above all, there is spell-binding dance: dramatic, hugely drawn and intensely joined. The Vancouver Sun
