Dancer Ben Waters

Ben Waters (he/him) was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. He began tap dancing at the age of two at Dance Express. Ben later took on hip hop, and joined the Dance Express Competition Team, as well as Adam McKinnon’s ‘Ones to Watch’ Crew. He remained a member of Dance Express and OTW Crew until age 16, when he was introduced to Arts Umbrella. There he began his professional training under the direction of Artemis Gordon. During Ben’s time at Arts Umbrella, he had the opportunity to research and perform works by Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke, Emily Molnar, Medhi Walerski, Victor Quijada, Lesley Telford, David Raymond, and many more. Ben also has a background in music and composition. He is the Resident Composer for Arts Umbrella Dance Company, and has composed original works for Ballet BC (‘Semble’ by Jacob Williams), Ethan Colangelo, Whim W’Him, DAF, Arts Umbrella, Zeitgeist Dance Theatre, and more. Ben has been attending Ballet BC’s performances since a very young age, and he is beyond thrilled to be joining as an emerging artist for the 2022/23 season.
