Raised in France, he initially trained at the conservatory in Saint-Etienne before joining L’École Supérieure de Danse de Cannes under the Direction of Rosella Hightower. Winner of the Lausanne Prize in 1999 (professional category), Pierre Pontvianne has worked as a dancer with international companies such as Nederlands Dans Theater 2 under the direction of Jiri Kylian, Frankfurt Ballet under the direction of William Forsythe, and Carte Blanche. He has also been involved in numerous choreographic projects within the European freelance scene.
In 2004, he founded his own company in Saint-Étienne, France. Since then, his work has been presented at various international festivals such as Montpellier Danse, June Events in Paris, Les Brigittines in Brussels, Cannes Dance Festival, Antigel in Geneva, Lyon Dance Biennale, and Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine Saint-Denis, and major stages including Maison de la Danse in Lyon and Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
Pierre Pontvianne has also created for Ballet Junior de Geneve and Ballet National de L’Opéra de Lyon.
From 2021 to 2024, he is an associated artist at CDCN Atelier de Paris.
