Ruth Lee (she/her) was born in BC, but soon after moved to Los Angeles for a short period of time where she started her first dance training. After moving back to Vancouver she attended a local dance studio where she trained more regularly and took part in competitions. In 2015 she became a student at Arts Umbrella where she went on to complete the Professional Program. Through this program Ruth has been fortunate to work with artists such as Eric Beauchesne, Rena Narumi, Tom Weinberg, James Kudelka, Anna Herrmann and many others. In the last season of the Graduates Program she performed works by Fernando Magadan, Marko Goecke, Crystal Pite, and Jae Man Joo. Ruth is now a third year in the Post-Graduates Program under the direction of Artemis Gordon.
In the past summers Ruth has attended the Arts Umbrella International Summer Dance Intensive, Batsheva Summer Intensive, Dutch National Ballet Summer Intensive, along with the NDT Summer Intensive by panel invitation. She has also been a recipient for the BC Arts Council Scholarship and the Creative Launchpad Scholarship the past few years, which has been a great support in pursuing more opportunities.
