Dancer Sydney Tormey

Sydney Tormey (she/her) is originally from Mapleton, UT and began exploring all genres of dance at the age of seven. After graduating in 2016, she moved to research the dance scene in Los Angeles, CA. With a desire to further her education, in 2018 she moved to Chicago to begin training with the professional program at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago under the direction of Alexandra Wells. After completing two years in Chicago, she joined the Arts Umbrella Post Secondary dance program in Vancouver, BC under the direction of Artemis Gordon. During her studies, she has had the opportunity to perform works by artists such as Crystal Pite, Medhi Walerski, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Marco Goecke, Sharon Eyal, Fernando Magadan and Peter Chu. She has also had the honor of working with dance artists such as Johan Inger, Bobbi Jene Smith, Shamel Pitts and Roy Assaf, along with many others. In her second year at Arts Umbrella, Sydney was awarded the McCall McBain Cultural Leadership Scholarship, and participated in the Ballet BC Performance Project. Sydney is thrilled and grateful to be returning to Ballet BC for her first year as a full company artist for the 2023/24 season.
