Lisa Gelley is a performer, teacher and choreographer in contemporary dance. She received her training in her hometown of Vancouver, Canada and abroad in Europe. As a performer, she has worked with choreographers including Dana Gingras, Justine Chambers, Amber Funk Barton, Vanessa Goodman, and was a member of Aeriosa (Julia Taffe) for six years, broadening her practice to include vertical contemporary dance in rock climbing systems on urban building walls and mountains.
In 2006, Lisa co-founded 605 Collective with Josh Martin and Shay Kuebler, where the three of them began creating collaborative works influenced by contemporary and urban forms. Now, over a decade later, the small collective has evolved into Company 605, co-directed by Lisa and her partner Josh Martin. Together they continue creating original works for stage and film, touring through Canada and Internationally. Company 605 has recently been awarded the 2015/16 CanDance Creation Fund Commission for their latest piece, Vital Few.
In addition to her work as a performer/choreographer, Lisa values opportunities to connect with young dancers and emerging professionals through contemporary dance education in Vancouver. Lisa is the recipient of the 2015 Vancouver International Dance Festival Choreographic Award.
