Engaging and inspiring people of all ages through dance.
Engaging and inspiring people of all ages through dance.
Ballet BC’s Education & Engagement programs extend the company’s artistic practice beyond the stage, creating meaningful points of connection between contemporary dance and schools, communities, and broader fields of practice across British Columbia and beyond. These programs are guided by Ballet BC’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA), and are structured around three pillars: Moving Schools, Moving Communities, and Moving Ideas.
Together, these programs position Ballet BC as both a cultural resource and a collaborative partner, supporting access to dance, nurturing embodied creativity, and building relationships that strengthen the role of the arts in public life.
Moving Schools programs support young people’s encounters with dance as an artistic practice, a way of understanding the world, and a possible career pathway. Each year, our In-school Workshops, Student and Community Dress Rehearsals, and Ballet BC Annex regional touring program allow students of all ages to experience the power of dance.
Moving Communities initiatives cultivate partnerships with community and social service organizations, through which the company offers movement-based experiences that encourage self-expression, connection, and reflection, particularly for individuals and groups who face barriers to arts access. This work is grounded in Ballet BC’s EDIA principles and responds directly to the specific needs, contexts, and capacities of partner communities.
Moving Ideas programming explores the connections between dance and other fields of practice. By bringing artists together with leaders from different disciplines, Ballet BC creates space for new conversations, fresh perspectives, and unexpected collaborations—extending the impact of dance beyond the stage and inviting new ways of thinking, moving, and collaborating.
Ballet BC’s Education and Engagement programs are generously supported by BMO, the Connor, Clark & Lunn Foundation, the R&J Stern Foundation, and the Province of British Columbia.
