44 Summer Intensive FAQ

For what time should I arrange travel to and from Vancouver?

We recommend arriving on the Sunday before you begin and flying out late Saturday or Sunday so you may enjoy the closing party. The session will run from 9am on the first Monday to 8:30pm on the second Saturday.

How can I connect with others dancers about shared accommodation?

Once our 44 dancers have been confirmed, we will create a private Facebook group for participating dancers to join and connect as they wish.

Please be advised that the FIFA World Cup will be taking place in Vancouver from June 13 to July 7. As a result, demand for hotels, short-term rentals, and Airbnbs will be exceptionally high during this period.

We strongly recommend that students begin securing accommodation immediately upon registering for the intensive. It is likely that available options will be booked early, and starting your search as soon as possible will help ensure better availability and pricing.

What is Granville Island, and where is it located?

Granville Island is a thriving, vibrant artistic and cultural hub in the heart of Vancouver on False Creek. It’s a waterfront community with a bustling market, lots of great restaurants and food options, and retail shops. It is also home to a wide variety of artisans, galleries, and performing arts venues.

Granville Island is easily accessible by all forms of transit, including water taxis that operate frequently. The Granville Island Hotel is located adjacent to Ballet BC, just a few steps away. A map of the Island is located in the list of useful links at the bottom of this page.

What amenities are available to me at Ballet BC?

The Ballet BC facility boasts four newly renovated studios, showers, and a fully-equipped kitchen all available for your use. Dancers will be responsible for providing their own meals.

What will the weather be like?

The 44 Summer Intensive takes place in the middle of summer in Vancouver. Weather is typically sunny and pleasant, with temperatures in the low to mid 20s (Celsius). However, we are in a temperate rainforest climate so precipitation is always possible!

Will I be able to purchase Ballet BC merch?

Yes! A variety of Ballet BC merchandise will be available for purchase on site during the summer intensive between the hours of 2 – 3pm.

Will there be any wellness services available to me during the intensive?

Yes. Ballet BC has several health and wellness practitioners that can be available for bookings during your stay in Vancouver, for a fee. More information will be provided at a later date.

What if I have to cancel my place in 44 after registering and paying?

For cancellations prior to April 20th, participants will be issued a full refund. For cancellations between April 20th-May 4th, participants will receive a 50% refund. For cancellations after May 4th, no refunds will be issued.

Is there a final presentation?

On the last Saturday of each session, dancers will spend the first half of the day rehearsing repertoire and their new choreography. From approximately 4:30 – 7pm dancers will present all of the material they worked on, followed by a closing party! Unless you can catch a late flight, we highly recommend you depart on Sunday morning.
