World-class dance that comes to you.
World-class dance that comes to you.
Ballet BC Annex, a collaboration with Arts Umbrella Dance and Modus Operandi, offers an invaluable opportunity for schools and communities across BC to engage in world-class dance and educational programming.
World Premiere | Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe
Cameron Fraser-Monroe is a choreographer, director, and member of the Tla’amin First Nation. Rooted in both classical training and Indigenous dance traditions, Cameron’s practice spans Hoop Dance, Grass Dance — studied under Elder Mollie Bono — and a performance career that has taken him to stages across North America and internationally.
As a choreographer, his commissions include the National Ballet of Canada, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Fall for Dance Festival NYC, among others. Cameron is currently Artist-in-Residence at the National Theatre School of Canada and continues to practice and present Hoop Dance as a living, vital part of his artistic identity.
Last Flower | Out Innerspace
Founded by BC-born artists Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond on unceded Coast Salish land in 2007, Out Innerspace (OIS) is driven by an uncompromising commitment to rigour, ingenuity, and the belief that dance can reflect a world in constant transformation.
With an international touring history spanning over 15 countries, their commissions include works for Netherlands Dance Theatre 2, Göteborg Opera Dance Company, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, and Ballet BC, among others. Through their education program Modus Operandi and Vancouver studio Q7, OIS remains deeply invested in nurturing the next generation of Canadian dance artists.
World Premiere | Michael Garcia
Born in McAllen, Texas, Michael Garcia trained at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts before earning his BFA from The Juilliard School under the direction of Alicia Graf Mack. He has performed with Loni Landon Dance Projects and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and is currently in his fourth season as a company artist at Ballet BC.
Beyond performing, Michael is an active teacher and choreographer, with commissions including Arts Umbrella Dance and four outstanding choreography awards from YAGP. He is passionate about cultivating his practice both in Vancouver and around the world.
The Annex project tours schools in Metro Vancouver and throughout BC, bringing contemporary dance repertoire, professional performances, and workshops to student groups and audiences of all ages. In the 2026/27 season, Annex will perform two brand new world premieres from Cameron Fraser-Monroe and Michael Garcia alongside a rework of Last Flower by Out Innerspace which had its world premiere at Ballet BC’s NOW in 2024.
In schools, workshops led by dancers and Ballet BC’s Outreach and Education team will accompany each performance, offering insight into the choreographic process and the career path of a dancer. Students will learn excerpts from the performance and engage in creative dialogue.
“The performance connected our school with the larger arts and culture community in Vancouver, and brought us together to share a common experience that helps deepen our learning.”
