Not at all! We offer classes for all levels, with options suitable for students completely new to dance or those who have previous dance experience.
Series are by registration and are progressive, multi-week classes that are meant to improve the student’s skill in the style of dance as the weeks go on. There will be a natural evolution as the class learns and improves technique but no final showing or piece of choreography to learn.
Drop-in classes are weekly sessions that don’t require a multi-week commitment. Students are welcome to attend as many or as few classes as they’d like. We have varying levels of difficulty for our drop-in classes, but the majority are suitable for beginners.
When deciding on a level, we recommend students consider their previous dance experience and what they are hoping to get out of a class.
Our Intro classes are intended for students with absolutely no dance experience. Beginner classes are intended for students with little-to-no dance experience, or for students who have experience but are looking for a refresher on the basics.
Students are able to try out the first class in a series in order to determine if they would like to continue. If they would like to continue, the full regular rate for the series will be owed. If not, the drop-in rate for the completed class will be owed. Please email classadmin@balletbc.com if you would like to try a class before deciding to register.
Students who are signed up for a series may transfer to another level within the first 3 weeks if they are not finding it to be a suitable level. Requests to transfer after the date of the third class in the series may be honoured if the teacher agrees that the student will be able to join and pick up on the material covered in class so far.
Our instructors are scheduled to teach the same class each week. However, occasionally Ballet BC company artists perform on tour and aren’t able to teach. If an instructor isn’t able to teach their regular class, MOVE has a robust roster of highly-qualified and talented instructors to substitute for them.
Yes. No experience is required and modifications will be available to anyone who needs them. All of our yoga classes are drop-ins.
Series:
Cancel at least seven days before the first class for a full refund. Cancel within seven days from the first class for a refund minus the cost of one class. Cancel before or on the date of the third class for a refund of the remaining classes. After the third class, no refund will be issued.
Drop-ins:
Cancellations must be made at least four hours prior to class. Cancellations made less than four hours before the class will not be refunded. Cancellations can be made within the MOVE account you used to register. For help with cancellations or changes, email frontdesk@balletbc.com.
If a 10 or 20-class MOVE pass is purchased and no classes are booked within 10 days, a full refund can be issued on request. If a student would like a refund for the remaining classes after using up to 3 classes, refunds can be issued on a pro-rated basis. No refunds will be issued after 3 classes have been used. Please note that MOVE passes are valid for one year from the date of purchase and cannot be extended if classes are unused.
Our classes are open to adults aged 18 and up.
Arts Umbrella on Granville Island offers dance classes for youth: artsumbrella.com/programs/dance/.
If a series student does not attend a single class or multiple classes within a series, no refund will be given. However, students can take a drop-in class as a makeup class. This can be done up to three times in a series, after which no refund or makeup class will be provided.
We try our best to accommodate latecomers unless the instructor has requested no late entry or if it’s beyond 30 minutes after the class has begun. If a student is late to class and unable to join, they may register for another class to make up for the missed class. Otherwise, the class the student arrived late for will be considered a late cancellation and will not be eligible for a refund. Please contact frontdesk@balletbc.com if you’re running late and would like to reschedule your class.
Once a series is full, a waitlist will be made available. Please contact classadmin@balletbc.com to be added to the waitlist if the series you’d like to attend is full.
We will contact those waitlisted via email as soon as a spot opens up. If those waitlisted have not heard from us by the date of the third session, they can assume the series is full. Follow @balletbcmove on Instagram or sign up to be added to our mailing list to be the first to know about future classes.
