The gripping, inventive, and searingly intimate work of choreographic duo Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber returns to our stage for a highly anticipated full evening world premiere, FOR GLASS.
The pair, who have been relentlessly and deservedly commanding attention in the worlds of contemporary dance, film, and live theatre, share a movement language strongly rooted in Gaga following years as dancers with Ohad Naharin’s renowned Batsheva Dance Company. Their recent work has been described as “wild and rebellious” (Le Figaro) and “astonishing in its creativity and depth” (LA Times).
It’s also a perfect match for the unparalleled physicality and emotional range of Ballet BC’s dancers, whose first journey with Smith and Schraiber was for the creation of Obsidian in the 2024/25 season.
The new creation features a full-company cast and a Philip Glass score performed live on stage by a string quartet. Expect a visceral and virtuosic evocation of the senses.
This world premiere has been generously supported by the Azrieli Foundation, the Ronald S. Roadburg Foundation, the Arnold and Anita Silber Family Foundation, the Al Roadburg Foundation in memory of Cindy Roadburg, Susan Mendelson and Jack Lutsky and the Lutsky Families, the Oasis Foundation, the Diamond Foundation, Arlene Gladstone, Arlene James, Marla Guralnick and Joshua Pekarsky, Karen Gelman, Judi Korbin, and Marla and Peter Gropper.
