Jessie Sijie Zhang (she/her) is a contemporary dance artist from Fuzhou, China, now based in Vancouver, Canada. Beginning her dance training in Chinese folk dance at age three, Jessie has since pursued extensive training across multiple disciplines. She is a recent graduate of the Modus Operandi Contemporary Dance Program under the direction of Tiffany Tregarthen, David Raymond, Kate Franklin, and Maiko Miyauchi. During her time at Modus, she collaborated with and performed works by Anne Plamondon, Adam Khazhmuradov, Mariko Kakizaki, Yi-Chun Liu, Ella Rothschild, Vanessa Goodman, and Out Innerspace. She has continued her artistic development through Springboard Danse Pittsburgh, the B12 Summer Festival in Berlin, GagaLab, and the Jacob Jonas Summer Intensive.
Her performance experience spans stage, film, and community-based work in Canada and abroad. She has performed work by Haeni Kim and Kristián Mensa (Mr. Kriss) at the SYNCNEXT 25 Contemporary Festival in Seoul, danced with Style & Grace, collaborated on dance films and multidisciplinary creative projects, and competed internationally with Northside at VIBE and BodyRock.
Jessie is drawn to new creative experiences and values opportunities to collaborate with artists across cultures and disciplines. She is thrilled to be joining Ballet BC Annex for the 2026/27 season.
