Happy International Volunteers Day!
Ballet BC is thrilled and grateful to have an incredible group of volunteers who regularly contribute their valued time and energy to Ballet BC. We have a diverse group of volunteers who support us in a number of ways, but Cody Cox is someone we have the pleasure of working with a few days a week, when he helps us with ticketing, sales, and audience services.
Tell us about your relationship with dance.
I started really getting into dance near the end of my high school education and decided that dance was what I wanted to do with my life. I have since graduated from the Simon Fraser University dance program and dancing there only proved to myself that dance was what I wanted to do. I love going to see dance productions as often as I can, and I can’t wait to be dancing on stage as part of a large dance company.
How were you introduced to Ballet BC?
I had always seen the advertisements for the shows but it was not until their 2013-2014 season that I went to see the company perform. The student rush tickets that were introduced were a good incentive as well. After my graduation from SFU, I emailed the volunteer coordinator at the time which led to my first volunteer shift for the show UN/A.
Why do you choose to volunteer for Ballet BC?
I do it for multiple reasons. It is great to be a part of and involved with a prominent force in the arts such as Ballet BC. Helping out and making things go easier and quicker so that the show runs smoother is an important thing and I enjoy being that helping hand. All the office employees have been nothing but friendly so it’s a great environment to be in. Being a dancer myself, it is good way to learn the workings of a company and make any connections I can.
Big thank you to Cody and all our volunteers for your support of Ballet BC.
