Annex Dancer Madalyn Sawa

Madalyn Sawa (she/her) grew up locally in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. She began her dance training at Pulse Dance Centre, where she developed versatility across a range of performance languages. In 2021, she joined Modus Operandi’s LINK program under the direction of David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen, further strengthening her artistic foundation.

She went on to complete the Arts Umbrella Pre-Grad and VCC Dance Diploma Program under the direction of Artemis Gordon. During her time, she performed works by internationally acclaimed choreographers including Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke, William Forsythe, Sharon Eyal, Fernando Hernando Magadan, Felix Landerer, Ella Rothschild, and Cyril Baldy. As a member of the Arts Umbrella Tour Company, she performed internationally at the Nederlandse Dansdagen Festival in Maastricht, Netherlands, presenting works by Stephen Shropshire, Astrid Boons, and others. In addition, she had the opportunity to choreograph for the Young Choreographers Showcase under the mentorship of Crystal Pite.

Madalyn has further expanded her practice through summer intensives with the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), Ballet BC, The Juilliard School, and Henny Jurriëns Studio, studying repertoire by Ohad Naharin, Damien Jalet, Johan Inger, Medhi Walerski, and others. She is grateful to have performed with Ballet BC as a guest artist in BOLERO X by Shahar Binyamini and toured with Frontier by Crystal Pite. She is thrilled to continue as a member of Ballet BC Annex for the 2026/27 season.
