Vivian Ruiz (she/her) was born in Miami, Florida, where she began her dance training at Stars Dance Company and the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School. In 2019, she moved to Vancouver, BC, to attend the Arts Umbrella Post-Secondary Program under the direction of Artemis Gordon.
During her time at Arts Umbrella, Vivian performed works by Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke, Medhi Walerski, Nacho Duato, Victor Quijada, David Raymond, Lesley Telford, Lukas Timulak, and Sharon Eyal. She also participated in Ballet BC’s Performance Project during the 2021/22 season and joined the research process for Crystal Pite’s Animation in 2021.
In the spring of 2022, Vivian joined Kidd Pivot as a swing for the European tour of Revisor. Later that year, she became a company artist with Ballet BC, where she has performed works by William Forsythe, Imre & Marne van Opstal, Johan Inger, Roy Assaf, Jiří Pokorný, Out Innerspace, Bobbi Jene Smith & Or Schraiber, and many other internationally acclaimed choreographers. In addition to performing, Vivian has taught company repertoire and created new work for Ballet BC’s 44 Summer Intensive, continuing to develop her voice as an artist. This is Vivian’s fifth season with Ballet BC.
