Artistic Director

Ballet BC is seeking an Artistic Director to lead its artistic team. The Artistic Director will build on the legacy developed over 10 years by outgoing Artistic Director Emily Molnar and expand it with their own artistic vision to maintain the highest possible presentation and production standards for the Company.

This position is an exceptional opportunity to inspire and lead Ballet BC’s collective work to investigate and develop a diverse repertoire of works at the forefront of contemporary ballet that communicates and contributes in meaningful ways to the future of dance, dance artists and audiences in Vancouver, Canada and internationally.

Building on Ballet BC’s strong brand and critical acclaim, the Artistic Director works in strong synergistic partnership with the Executive Director to support the activities of the organization, fostering a collaborative environment in which the creative and administrative teams work effectively together to realize the Company’s ongoing, evolving vision of excellence.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

Artistic programming:

  • Conceives, develops and delivers the company’s artistic vision and programs consistent with the company’s Strategic Plan as it evolves under new leadership
  • Remains up to date with the latest developments in the national and international contemporary dance fields
  • Curates the creation, staging, and production of new and existing works for Ballet BC
  • Ensures the highest level of excellence in all artistic production, touring, programming, and outreach activities within the parameters of the established annual financial plan/budget, internal policies and the company’s Strategic Plan as it evolves under new leadership
  • Develops and maintains effective and healthy collaborative relationships and partnerships in support of programming
  • Assists in the process of negotiating and securing touring contracts within the parameters of the established financial plan/budget and internal policies

Artist administration, budgeting, and human resources:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates artistic programs and tours for each season and takes a multi-year perspective
  • Works with the Executive Director to develop annual program and artistic and production budgets in advance of each fiscal period
  • Manages certain human resources by conducting auditions and selecting dancers, choreographers, rehearsal directors and teachers and other artistic staff; supervises, mentors and evaluates dancers and artistic, production, technical and artistic support staff
  • Maintains an effective and healthy work environment for artistic, production, and artistic support staff best suited to their creative development

External relations, development, and community leadership:

  • Represents Ballet BC and serves as an effective spokesperson on local, national and international forums
  • Takes a leading role in promoting Ballet BC
  • Assists as required in development activities
  • Fosters the development of good relationships with other dance, arts and cultural organizations locally, nationally and internationally
  • Promotes public interest and appreciation for dance arts

Marketing Coordinator

Ballet BC is seeking a marketing professional to support the marketing department and marketing needs of this leading contemporary ballet company. This role serves to support the marketing department and service the marketing needs of the other departments. The Marketing Coordinator will execute the digital marketing strategy outlined by the marketing department as well as organize and streamline marketing processes for external and internal marketing requests.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Collateral organization for all departments — development, artistic, corporate
  • Collateral distribution — dance schools, community centres
  • Web updates
  • Organizing, re-sizing, distribution of marketing assets to suppliers
  • Contesting details to suppliers
  • Performance archiving
  • Electronic newsletter scheduling, creation & distribution
  • Survey distribution & reporting
  • Organization and distribution of touring kits
  • Strategy execution for social channels and paid digital advertising
  • Periodic goal setting with Marketing Manager with clear KPIs against all channels and campaigns
  • Data reporting with insights on digital activities

Desired qualifications

  • Experience in WordPress
  • Working knowledge of Constant Contact or related platform
  • Social and digital media expert with 2-3 years experience
  • Understanding of how social media fits within marketing and communications mix
  • Experience with social media scheduling, Google Analytics, Google Adwords
  • Working knowledge of Facebook advertising, remarketing and conversion tracking
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
  • Diploma in Marketing / Communications is preferred
  • Experience in copywriting
  • Ability to meet hard deadlines with strong project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanour for events with board members, donors, patrons
  • Passionate about customer service and creating positive experiences for communities
  • Interest in non-profit arts management and dance
  • Comfortable working evenings and weekends when required
