About the Scholarship

Striving toward a more equitable and diverse future in dance, we are proud to introduce Dancers of Today, a new Ballet BC scholarship program.

Dancers of Today provides greater access to dance education, with the ultimate goal of creating a path accessible to all communities to feed into our professional company. The scholarship, supported by the Y.P. Heung Foundation, offers an aspiring dancer an opportunity to further their training through the Arts Umbrella Dance program, with preference given to applicants from underrepresented communities.

Successful candidates are all students aged 12 and above who exhibit talent and commitment to the field of dance. Ballet BC covers 100% of tuition and related fees for a minimum of one student to attend the dance program at Arts Umbrella for at least six years – a value of $11,000-$12,500 annually.

For the 2025/26 season, we are thrilled to announce the third recipient of the Dancers of Today Scholarship is Vancouver-based dancer Louis Pineau, who is entering his final year with the Arts Umbrella Dance pre-professional program. Congratulations, Louis!

Previous Dancers of Today Scholarship recipients are Elizabeth Louie and Nathan Bear. A former Ballet BC Annex dancer, this season Elizabeth joins Ballet BC as a dance intern, and Nathan is entering his second season as an Emerging Artist with the company.
