Dancing on the Edge 2019

As a creation-based company, we are thrilled to see both our present and past company members, Kirsten Wicklund and Rachel Meyer, present their own creations in the amazing Dancing on the Edge Festival!

Kirsten Wicklund performs Afloat amidst the steam of my combustion in a program with Vancouver artist, Ziyian Kwan. EDGE Six will be presented at the Firehall Arts Centre from July 12-13, 2019.

Floundering around in the ether,

Afloat amidst the steam of my combustion.

A solo work – a disposable layer, a series of others, a thousand lifetimes. The exhaust of history repeating itself. Can it be found? Replaced? Sewn back together? Did it disappear, has it been destroyed or does it still exist? The tirelessness of change that is constantly undone. The fury of persistence.

The early Dawn was born; her fingers bloomed.

Then stopped and stood beside the sturdy pillar.

Holding a gauzy veil before her face.

Those pillars keep heaven and earth apart

With that, the owl-eyed goddess

Flew away like a bird, up through the smoke.

She left him feeling braver, more determined.

Former company member, Rachel Meyer, showcases Transverse Orientation at a warehouse space (1490 E Georgia St) from July 4-6, 2019.

Transverse Orientation unfolds in the space between two allegories taken from the Moth. On the one hand, the idea of radical transformation: Moths undergo metamorphosis, becoming beings that don’t remotely resemble their previous incarnation. On the other hand, the idea of a mysterious source of distant guidance (or distraction); In travel, Moths find their orientation by keeping a fixed angle on a distant source of light.
