Ballet BC Intensives FAQ

Can anyone take part in Ballet BC intensives?

Our intensives are for dancers aged 15-22 who are training at a pre-professional or professional level. They are not designed for dancers at a beginner level, and all participants must complete a video audition to be considered for participation.

I sent in an audition for an intensive but I never heard back. What should I do?

Please check that you received a copy of your audition form responses, as that is confirmation that your materials have been received.

If you did not receive a copy of your audition form responses, or are unsure, please contact classadmin@balletbc.com.

I’m waitlisted for an intensive, when will I hear if I’ve been accepted or not?

Due to the high number of applicants, waitlisted dancers will only be contacted in the event they are accepted into the intensive.

Do you offer financial aid or a payment plan option?

At this time, we do not offer financial aid or scholarships for intensive dancers. Please contact classadmin@balletbc.com if you would like information about payment plans.

For what time should I arrange travel to and from Vancouver?

We recommend arriving in Vancouver the day before the intensive begins, and leaving the day after to ensure you don’t miss any part of the intensive or final showcase.

How can I connect with others dancers about shared accommodation?

Once our dancers have been confirmed, we will create a private, monitored Facebook group for participating dancers to join and connect as they wish.

While dancers are expected to arrange their own accommodation, please contact classadmin@balletbc.com if you are having trouble, as we may be able to assist some dancers.

What is Granville Island, and where is it located?

Granville Island is a thriving, vibrant artistic and cultural hub in the heart of Vancouver on False Creek. It’s a waterfront community with a bustling market, lots of great restaurants and food options, and retail shops. It is also home to a wide variety of artisans, galleries, and performing arts venues.

Granville Island is easily accessible by all forms of transit, including water taxis that operate frequently. The Granville Island Hotel is located adjacent to Ballet BC, just a few steps away. A map of the Island is located in the list of useful links at the bottom of this page.

What amenities are available to me at Ballet BC?

The Ballet BC facility boasts four newly renovated studios, showers, and a fully-equipped kitchen all available for your use. Dancers will be responsible for providing their own meals.

What will the weather be like?

Vancouver’s weather follows that of a temperate rainforest climate. It often rains throughout the year, but our summers can get quite hot and sunny. Snow is always a possibility in the winter months.

Will I be able to purchase Ballet BC merch?

Yes! A variety of Ballet BC merchandise will be available for purchase on site during the intensive at lunchtime.

Will there be any wellness services available to me during the intensive?

Ballet BC has several health and wellness practitioners that can be available for bookings during your stay in Vancouver, for a fee. Dancers are responsible for arranging their own physio and wellness services while in Vancouver, and these services are not included in your tuition. We require proof of travel insurance if you are visiting from outside of Canada to help cover costs of seeing a healthcare professional in the event of an injury.

What if I have to cancel my place in the intensive after registering and paying?

Please refer to your acceptance letter’s cancellation policy.

What should I bring?

Please bring a water bottle, a notebook and pen, hair elastics if needed, dance wear, personal medical supplies such as braces and tensor bandages, and snacks to keep you nourished throughout the day.

For the 44 Summer Intensive, we recommend bringing beachwear, a towel, and sunscreen for our group excursion.

Is there a dress code?

There is no specific dress code. Please bring dance wear for ballet class and comfortable clothes for rehearsals and contemporary class. Dance shoes are recommended for ballet class, but socks can be worn for all classes and rehearsals.

Is there a final presentation?

A final showcase will be presented for family, friends, invited guests, and Ballet BC staff and dancers.
