Woke Up Blind | Marco Goecke
A stirring and evocative exploration of love, longing and loss, and a notable creation within illustrious German choreographer Marco Goecke’s monumental 60-work canon, Woke Up Blind returns to our stage. Seven dancers inhabit the choreographer’s pure, ultra-distinct style, moving through a world of intense sound highlighted by the singular guitar licks and the haunting vocals of storied late American musician Jeff Buckley. A vital work of contemporary dance that will leave you wanting more.
Obsidian | Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber
Alums of Batsheva Dance Company, founding members of the American Modern Opera Company and current Artists in Residence with LA Dance Project, Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber—partners inside and outside the studio—create their first work for Ballet BC. World Premiere | Medhi Walerski
Continuing a remarkable and prolific creative journey with Ballet BC, Artistic Director and French choreographer Medhi Walerski adds an anticipated work to the company’s growing repertoire—his seventh world premiere created in Vancouver and shared first with Ballet BC audiences. Known for movement language that embodies the essence of the human spirit through intimate partnering and dynamic group work, his works are powerful and riveting, demanding the audience’s full attention.
