Six Reasons to See Take Form

The dancer-driven Take Form returns this fall for its fifth anniversary edition, where our amazing company artists do it all—from choreography and costumes, to marketing and ticketing. It’s their show, onstage and off! Read on to discover why you should join us at the BMO Theatre Centre in Olympic Village, September 11/12/13.

1. Get up close and personal

A departure from Ballet BC’s usual performance venue—the 2700-seat Queen Elizabeth Theatre—Take Form happens at the BMO Theatre Centre’s 250-seat Olympic Village Stage. The intimate, classic blackbox theatre features horseshoe seating on three sides of the stage for an up-close-and-personal connection with the performers that you won’t get anywhere else.

2. Meet our newest dancers

Take Form will be your first chance to experience the artistry of some of Ballet BC’s newest dancers, including Emerging Artist Stan Tonin and Company Artist Kylie Miller. Stan trained with Arts Umbrella and was a Ballet BC Annex dancer in the 2024/25 season, performing on tour in schools and community venues across the province. Kylie, originally from Vancouver, began her career with Modus Operandi before joining Batsheva Dance Company led by Ohad Naharin in 2022.

3. The biggest show yet

Now in its fifth year, Take Form is bigger than ever, featuring a record 10 world premieres by Ballet BC company dancers-turned-choreographers. Vivian Ruiz will share a world premiere accompanied by an original composition written and performed by her sister on the harmonium. Sidney Chuckas and Jacalyn Tatro will also choreograph to new musical compositions. A meaningful platform for our dancers to stretch their personal creativity across genres, and collaborate with other artists.

4. All hands on deck

The true uniqueness of Take Form comes from the fact that all aspects of the show’s production are handled by the dancers of Ballet BC. Where Ballet BC’s season programs see our dancers performing on stage, interpreting the artistic vision of a choreographer, Take Form not only allows our dancers the opportunity to create their own dance works, but provides experience in many other technical and administrative areas, allowing them the chance to develop skills for the future. This year, Sidney Chuckas, Michael Garcia, and Kaylin Sturtevant take on the demanding role of producer, overseeing the program’s budget and ensuring all areas of the production are running smoothly and on time. Orlando Harbutt and Joziah German lead outreach and development efforts, and Imani Frazier and Benjamin Peralta are Take Form’s marketing team.

5. One-of-a-kind swag

Our coveted Ballet BC merchandise gets the Take Form treatment, with all-new limited edition items for sale on site featuring a brand new logo for the 2025/26 season designed by dancer Sidney Chuckas. Merch will be available in the BMO Theatre Centre lobby before the show and during intermission. Make sure you’re following @_takeform on Instagram for a sneak peek at new items (and other BTS content) ahead of opening night!

6. Support the future of Take Form

Take Form has big dreams! In order for the unique program to continue to evolve and thrive, we need your support. Because of your generosity through spreading word, buying tickets, and making donations, Ballet BC’s dancers can continue to develop their skills on and off stage in meaningful ways not typically available to professional dancers. Thank you for making Take Form dreams a reality.
